Lots of places to explore off the camp grounds. Once you walk out the entrance of the camp you can let your dogs off of their leash. We plan on returning
Also the water spout near our camp was not working and no sign was posted. I stayed here a couple of months ago and it was a better experience which is why they get 3 stars. This is no longer the first place I will check when considering camping near Payson.
The one issue with the facility was that the dumping station was closed, and so we had to drive all the way back to Queen Creek with waste tanks full.
If you are allergic to bees call ahead.
Everything the previous user posted. Beautiful campground. Reservations easy to make at rec.gov, buy may be cheaper to book once you get up here. Would have been 5 stars, but the toilets stink, although they do keep them stocked with toliet paper.
This campground is below the Rim but just a short drive and you're up on top. The large Ponderosa pines make this a perfect setting with lots of privacy between campsites. The toilets are kept very clean and the hosts are absolutely wonderful! It's close to a small store if you need ice or supplies. Our large site had a huge fire pit and two smaller BBQ areas. Pick a spot back from the highway or you will hear the traffic. There is some highway construction going on (Highway 87) but it didn't bother us much at all. All in all a wonderful camping experience!
We reserved from the 12th - 15th of April. The camp hosts had our site clearly labeled and raked the site clean of the pine needles which was nice. We had an issue with an ATV riding around the site, and the hosts quickly corrected the riders that use of ATV's is not allowed in the grounds.
It's advisable to bring fire wood with you. It is for sale at the campground, but you can get it a lot cheaper in town. Charcoal grills ar also available so bring a bag of that too!
We had a bit of noise from the highway, but our site was very close to the entrance. if you drive further into the campground, I'm sure you won't hear the traffic on the highway.
Are you aloud to bring dogs?
We left a day early today because there were sweat bees everywhere. We spoke to other campers and at least 2 people were stung in each site. 1 or 2 bees is one thing but our campground had at least 30 or so. We spent more of our time during the weekend away from the site which is not we were expecting. We spoke to the management and said this was an issue for the last month or so.
